Whom to Blame ??

This issue has to be read in the context of ongoing chaos and lawlessness in the society.

Firstly, the onus lies on “We the People”.  In a democratic set up it is the person who elects the government who is expected to and have the onus and responsibility for shaping the destiny of the Nation.  The concept of rule by majority has totally failed in the present set up as on an average half of the population do not take part in the democratic process of voting.  In view of this, the political parties/politicians, who more often dilutes the system and innovate and deploy the methods which are against the Principles enshrined in the Constitution of India.  As there is no compulsory voting, these politicians take advantage of the vulnerable sections of the society by adopting the methods of corruption and nepotism by offering money and other give away.  They divide the society on the basis of caste, religion, language etc., and ensure that the social backwardness and economic inequality sustains so that they can always retain their political vote bank intact for successive elections.  More than 50% of our population is below the age of 25 years and majority of them are educated who orally discuss and analyze ills in the society on a day to day in the visual media have to own up their responsibility and participate in the democratic process.  Non-participation of this section in the democratic process makes the unsuitable /ill equipped people occupying higher positions in the government and contributes for dilution in quality of governance.

Another systemic failure is on account of lack of ethics both at the family level and in the society at large.  The change in the concept of joint family to unitary families coupled with both parents taking up employment has resulted in that the children are allowed to grow on their own and the historical guidance of the old/grandparents who normally imbibe the basic values during the formative years of children has lost its relevance and this has contributed to a large extent for the present status of the society.

For the reasons stated in the first para above, there is political instability at both the Centre and the States  which has resulted in lack of proper governance thereby the anti-social elements have taken advantage and occupied the center stage and given scope for terrorism, law lessness, corruption etc.,  The recent incidents of the Advocates in uniform obstructing the traffic, beating the media persons and lack of courage on the part of the government to take stringent action against them and not allowing the Police to take their own decisions in handling the situation is a an example of political instability.  The decisions taken by the Central Govt is being opposed by states.  These issues individually and collectively are causing grave danger for the country as a whole.

One of the reasons for educated section of the society taking short cut route for temporary gains is the lack of time and patience.  Due to this, they start bribing low level employees and deploying agents for attending to their works which ultimately reach the high level officials and then to the rulers in the government.
